Life’s a Beach: My OT Journey Part 2

After arriving at Bangkok Airport OT Journey Part1  in Bangkok I took a shuttle bus to Hua Hin Beach. After the rigid orderliness of my stopover in Qatar airport, Hua Hin felt like the Caribbean on crack.

My week long vacation in Hua Hin was full of new experiences. It was a tourist attraction where none of the Thai shop owners spoke English. My favorite parts were its spirituality, beautiful beaches,, monkeys tightrope walking on the telephone wires, dogs everywhere, and going to a Muay Thai boxing match and Thai Street market.

The foreigners were polite but unkind. My viewpoint was about to change when it was time to catch the charter bus back to Bangkok and I had my first crisis. When I called the taxi (a Thai Uber service) my driver was unable to find me standing in front of my hotel. After we shouted at each other on the phone for a while in different languages she left without me, and charged me for the ride.

A kind Danish man in the restaurant next to where I was standing noticed my distress, called me over, and calmed me down. He asked his Thai waitress to call a local cab and explain to them in Thai where I was and where I needed to go. I knew it was going to be really close and that I might miss the bus (which was nonrefundable if you were late) and be stranded, probably missing my flight to Chiang Mai to my next destination.

I did what I always do in a crisis, freak out, then automatically start deep breaths counting. I arrived at the bus as they were pulling away, and they waited while I put my luggage in. I learned there are good people everywhere and they really make a difference. I continued on to Chiang Mai for my two week QiGong workshop on Transforming Negative Emotions.
